USBC LEAGUE RULE CHANGES
2009-2010 SEASON

• LEGAL LINEUP: The league now fully controls the number. One can be a legal lineup for any size team strength.
• C0-CHAMPIONS: Leagues can now declare co-champions if ties for first place are encountered. Formerly, a playoff was required for a first place tie. Your league rules must state that co-champions are permitted.
• PLAYOFF TYPE: The league now fully controls this. Formerly, at least one game had to be bowled. Now, the league can have as little as one frame for the playoff. The league rules must state the type of playoff.
• VACANCY SCORE: Any number or calculation can be used for a vacancy score. But, the league rule must be universally applied. Difference scores for male or female vacancies are permitted.
• BUMPER BOWLING: These leagues can now be sanctioned. However, the appropriate sanction fee must be paid and the average attained cannot be used for a standard youth or adult league.
• SUBSTITUES ON TEAM HIGH SCORES: formerly, if a team scored the high team game or series in the league, and a substitute bowled on the team that session, the score would not qualify. Now, the league can, by league rule, permit that team with the substitute to earn the league high team game or high team series award if the league uses such awards.

  2006-2007 SEASON

  • PINS: If a pin is standing on the pindeck but is outside the range of the sweep bar; it must be reset on its original pinspot. (Formerly, it remained where it stood...Try to make that spare)
  • BOWLING ON THE WRONG LANE: Upon discovery of individuals bowling on the wrong lane, subsequent bowlers are required to bowl on the correct lane. (Formerly, if more than one bowler on a team bowled on the wrong lane, the bowlers continued on the wrong lanes until the end of the game but started following games on the correct lane.)
  • DUTIES OF SECRETARY: The secretary is required to include the bowler's national ID on the average list supplied to the local association. (You will have no trouble with this one since out sheet that we give you has the ID printed on it.)
  • TRANSFERRING TEAM MEMBERSHIP: Removes the requirement that the team captain of the former team approve the transfer.
  • MISSED FRAMES: Allows an individual to make up frames in a game he or she started but frames were missed due to emergency. The league can make a rule to govern the situation.
  • DISMISSAL HEATING FOR NON-PAYMENT OF FEES: Removes the 'requirement' that the file be sent within 30 days of the league meeting. (The rule now 'suggests' that the 30 day requirement be maintained. Formerly, the file could be thrown out if the 30-day requirement was not met.)
  • YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS: USBC has passed a rule that requires scholarships awarded by certified tournaments be deposited with SMART. While scholarship leagues are not mentioned, they are inferred. Should you not wish to deposit funds with SMART omit any references to scholarships in league names. Many tournaments are not going to certify because of this change.
